In the context of immigration and settlement, Canada and Germany are often portrayed as opposites: Canada represents a settler society and Germany an ethnic nation. The different approaches and attitudes of the two countries towards immigration can be linked to different historical understandings of nationhood. Canada could not be imagined as a country without its immigrants; immigration is an integral aspect of national identity. Conversely, although Germany has always received immigrants, national identity has historically been conceived in ethnic terms. In this paper, I explore some of the contradictions in Canadian and German immigration debates related to national belonging. for example, Canada’s identity as a settler society has long marginalized Indigenous populations, while in German debate the narratives of ethnically-belonging Germans and newly-arriving migrants openly engage with each other. King Lear is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare, describing a father’s sorrow over his daughters’ unfilial or disobedient behavior. Although the father-daughter relationship in the play is often studied, to date, this relationship has not been investigated from the perspective of the Bowen family systems theory. Thus, the present study adopts the new interdisciplinary research method, the Bowen theory, to interpret the father-daughter relationship in King Lear. The focus of  this  article  is  to  analyse  the  level  of  self-differentiation  of  Lear  and  the  three  daughters,  namely  Regan,  Goneril,  Cordelia  in  King  Lear.  It  will  thoroughly  investigate  the  fusion  and  differentiation  in  their  interactions  with  their  original  and  nuclear  families  and  examine  the  projection of Lear’s chronic anxiety on his daughters. Chronic anxiety due to social factors, such as humanism, feudalism,  and patriarchy, and their impact on the father-daughter relationship in the tragedy, will also be investigated. It argues that the father-daughter relationship in King Learis  dysfunctional  due  to  the  lower  level  of  differentiation  of  self  between  Lear  and  his  three  daughters, the projection of Lear’s anxiety onto the daughters, and the chronic anxiety brought about by societal regression. Hence, through the lens of the Bowen family systems theory, the study of the father-daughter relationship in the play can provide a new method for examining the dysfunctional family relationship in literary works.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to report findings from interviews with seven African-heritage women attending a female genital mutilation (FGM) Clinic in the north of England, during the COVID-19 lockdown. The Clinic, established several years before the pandemic, provides specialist therapeutic support to women and girls from minority ethnic communities who are affected by harmful “traditional” practices, including FGM. The services provided by the Clinic include early interventions, peer support, community engagement and empowerment around FGM. Four academic deans investigated when and how they used interpersonal/negotiating skills to function effectively in their positions. For two full weeks, the deans coded their on-the-job interactions during scheduled meetings, informal meetings, spontaneous encounters/meetings, telephone calls, and select email. Analyses revealed that the interpersonal/negotiating skills used, from most to least prevalent, were: working closely with others, being responsive to key persons, negotiating key players\u27 roles, and keeping key persons in the organisation informed. Across these engagements, the deans interacted with 35 different categories of stakeholders inside and outside their institutions for 32 different purposes. O crime passional normalmente acontece motivado pelo ciume e sentimento de posse nas relacoes conjugais. Trata-se de um tipo de homicidio qualificado previsto no artigo 121 §1 do Codigo Penal, tendo como principais atenuantes motivo torpe e futil. Paralelamente, sólo un tercio de los directivos de la UE eran mujeres en 2017 (INE y Eurostat, 2018), mientras que realidades como el acoso laboral carecen de estadísticas por ser difíciles de cuantificar. A critical, albeit understudied, dimension of the backlash against women’s anti-violence advocacy is the rise of Indian men’s rights organizations formed to lobby for changes to, and in some cases, the complete abolition of vital legal protections for women. Utilizing cyber forums, public protests, and print media, these groups disseminate narratives of women wreaking destruction on the Indian family through their alleged misuse of “gender-biased” laws. These activities are significant because they operate as transnational sites of meaning making about the realities of violence against women in India and because they conspire in a distortion of reality that jeopardizes ongoing advocacy efforts.

This article focuses on the potential of memes as apparently innocuous communicative digital tools to spread gendered Islamophobia. Following Segev et al.’s (2015) theories of meme families, we studied a corpus of 100 memes retrieved from popular internet meme sites from 2017 to 2021. We applied the principles of multimodal discourse analysis to analyse Shifman’s three dimensions of memes (content, form and stance) and described a large sample of memes, categorizing them into three popular tropes of Muslim women found in literature and electronic
media. Our findings revealed that most misogynistic Islamophobic memes
characterize Muslim women as oppressed by their own community. A smaller degree of memes portrays Muslim women’s bodies as sexualized and assailable, and finally very few memes depict them as terrorists. We contend that internet memes can be a powerful and efficient means to disseminate vitriolic rhetoric in a subtle and camouflaged way leading to the trivialization and, eventually, acceptance of their hateful discourse.

The study investigated dating violence and help-seeking behaviour among adolescent undergraduates of Obafemi Awolowo University. Using descriptive survey, an instrument, “Dating Violence and Help-Seeking Behaviour” was used to collect data from 591 students and data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study concluded that undergraduate adolescents experience dating violence and mostly in the form of emotional violence and they seek informal source of help which may account for under-reporting and hinder provision of appropriate formal source of help such as counselling intervention. It is recommended that school counsellors should try and sensitise the students about dating violence. University authorities need to implement strategies that encourage reporting of dating violence and ensure that reports are managed appropriately.

Domestic violence is a worldwide epidemic, and the UN lists it as the worst human rights violation before the Covid-19 outbreak. A large rise in domestic violence incidents occurred when governments adopted emergency lockdown measures due to a worldwide Covid-19 epidemic. The unprecedented rise in domestic violence cases under Covid-19 serves as a wake-up call for the states. This study aims to examine the reasons for the increase in domestic violence and the methods used by stakeholders to address the issue in South Asian and Far Eastern countries, specifically the Maldives, Pakistan, and Malaysia. This study summarizes the results of meta-analyses about risk and protective factors related to dating violence (DV). Fifteen studies were included from 1997 to 2018, N = 1784018. The results were classified according to ecological theory. The Zr’s were calculated for each factor and level of analyses, including the differences between victimization and perpetration effect sizes. According to the level of analysis, results showed that the effect sizes were greater for: (1) individual level: cigarette smoking, adolescent pregnancy (victimization) and sex (perpetration/victimization); (2) microsystem: peer sexual harassment, (victimization), peer DV, deviant peers and family violence (perpetration/ victimization); (3) Exosystem: age (victimization) and violent neighborhoods (perpetration/ victimization), and (4) macrosystem: cultural minority and disadvantaged neighborhoods (perpetration / victimization). Last week, a sentence was passed at Guildford Crown Court on a 19-year-old man named Adam Hulin. He had pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault-the oral rape of a child under 13 and assault by penetration of a child under 13. His penalty, judged to be "the appropriate disposal" by George Lawson-Rogers QC, was 100 hours of community service, six hours of counselling and a victim surcharge of £60.

This article seeks to contribute to the discussion and analysis for the study and investigation of the murders of women in Mexico. I will begin by taking up the notes written by Andrea Sanchez, "Could we imagine a military man?" to highlight the argument that this problem is moving away from the home and gaining more presence in the public space. In this sense, there are new actors present in the increase of murders of women. A new actor in certain geographical areas of the country is organized crime, which not only makes use of firearms, but also torture, extortion, threats, disappearance and economic grabbing. For the purposes of this article, we will emphasize homicidal violence against women in cities.

Background One in three women from lower and middle-income countries are subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence (IPV) in their life span. Prior studies have highlighted a range of adverse health impacts of sexual IPV. However, less is known about the link between multiple high-risk fertility behaviours and sexual intimate partner violence. The present study examines the statistical association between multiple high-risk fertility behaviours and sexual intimate partner violence among women in India. Methods The present study used a nationally representative dataset, the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4) 2015–16. Esse artigo apresenta reflexoes decorrentes de uma pesquisa realizada com assistentes sociais que trabalham em Centros de Referencia de Assistencia Social (CRAS). Objetivou-se atraves desse estudo conhecer a concepcao de familia que orienta a intervencao dos profissionais nesse espaco sociocupacional. Concepcoes distintas foram mencionadas como familias tradicionais, monoparentais e familias formadas por lacos afetivos. Embora seus depoimentos apontem para conceitos explicitados nas legislacoes vigentes, foram predominantes em seus discursos perspectivas conservadoras. Muitos profissionais esperam padroes de funcionalidade expressos na familia nuclear burguesa. Entende-se que, em se tratando de “familias”, torna-se imperativo considerar a multiplicidade de relacoes presentes na sociedade, suas historias, suas particularidades, seus codigos morais e suas linguagens. The main focus of this paper is on Articles 82, paragraph 2, and 83, paragraph 1, TFEU used as the legal basis for the draft directive on violence against women and domestic violence. The evaluations will also take into account Opinion 1/19 of the EU Court of Justice, the Council Decision 2017/865 on the signature of the Istanbul Convention and the draft decisions on the conclusion of that same agreement. In this context, reference will be made to the provisions of the directive dealing with the qualification of certain forms of violence against women (in particular the ones cybercrime) and to the risk of disputes by States that have not ratified or are raising problems about the implementation of the Istanbul Convention, seeking to assess the prospects for the future adoption of the proposed directive

The main focus of this paper is on the path that is leading the EU legislator to combat violence against women and domestic violence using different approaches. Starting with the recent development that led the EU to ratify the Istanbul Convention with the decisions approved on 1st June 2023, the author examines the recent proposal for a directive on the topic, evaluating in particular its legal basis as proposed by the European Commission (Article 82.2 and Article 83.1 TFEU), taking into account Opinion 1/19 of the EU Court of Justice, and all the decisions that authorised signature and ratification of the Istanbul Convention and the possible alternatives. In this context, reference will be made to the provisions of the directive dealing with the qualification of certain forms of violence against women (in particular the ones connected to cybercrime) and to the risk of challenges by States that have not ratified or are raising problems about the implementation of the Istanbul Convention, seeking to assess the prospects for the future adoption of the proposed directive.

El proceso electoral 2018 resultó inédito en el contexto del estado de Jalisco respecto a la implementación del principio de paridad en el registro de candidaturas a nivel municipal, la llamada paridad horizontal. En aquél también se hicieron evidentes las resistencias y los actos de simulación que las estructuras partidistas emplean para obstaculizar el ejercicio de la paridad sustantiva. Concretamente, nos referiremos a las manifestaciones de violencia política que atentan contra la plena representación de las mujeres.
El principio de paridad y la violencia política contra las mujeres en razón de género se encuentran estrechamente relacionados: el primero pretende incrementar la participación y representación política de las mujeres en los cargos de elección popular; la segunda consigue desalentar su participación política y excluirlas de los espacios de mayor importancia en la geografía municipal y estatal.
Las primeras dos secciones del capítulo exponen un par de temas centrales identificados respecto al ejercicio de los derechos políticos de las mujeres en el proceso electoral: la normalización de la violencia política y el papel que jugaron las estructuras partidistas en la misma. La tercera sección es una síntesis de los aspectos más sobresalientes sobre la magnitud, manifestaciones y casos de violencia política en razón de género en Jalisco. Para cerrar el capítulo, se realizan una serie de recomendaciones dirigidas a diversas instituciones y niveles de gobierno para avanzar hacia la construcción de una democracia verdaderamente inclusiva de las mujeres.

Intimate partner homicide (IPH) is a significant public health issue that has negative consequences for families and communities. Evidence is needed to support heterogeneity among groups affected by IPHs. This study examined differences in characteristics of male-perpetrated and female-perpetrated killings of native-born and foreign-born residents in the United States. We analyzed 2003-2013 IPH homicide data collected in 19 U.S. states by the National Violence Death Reporting System, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, comparing IPH cases where the victim was U.S.-born versus foreign-born. We examined characteristics associated with male-perpetrated female killings and female-perpetrated male killings. Among the total homicides ( n = 147,092), foreign-born victims were more likely than U.S.-born victims to be associated with intimate-partner-violence-related deaths. Previous research on the domestic murder of women is relatively scant. Domestic femicide data collected from 32 state domestic violence coalitions was regressed on variables associated with three theoretical explanations: economic stress and inequality variables, criminal justice variables, and community variables. Findings suggest that state size has the largest impact on the number of domestic femicides, perhaps because of the relationship between state size and other variables such as poverty and public services. Not related to domestic femicide are variables such as the number of officers on the street, the number of violent crimes, or household income.
