L’établissement des “Cinquante Arpents” à Tremblay-en-France (Seine-Saint-Denis) est créé au tournant des IVe et IIIe s. av. n. è., à la limite nord-est de la cité des Parisii. Il offre une remarquable continuité d’occupation jusqu’à la fin du IIIe s. de n. è. puis une brève installation durant le dernier tiers du IVe s. Malgré son arasement prononcé, les nombreuses données mobilières et immobilières ont permis d’individualiser sept phases d’occupation bien caractérisées. Elles peuvent être rassemblées en quatre grandes étapes : La Tène moyenne/finale, le Haut-Empire, la deuxième moitié du IIIe s. et la fin du IVe s. Durant la majeure partie de sa longue histoire, le site est le siège d’une élite terrienne dont la prospérité repose sur l’échange de denrées agricoles via le contrôle des terres aux alentours. Sa position sociale comme la lisibilité des modèles interprétatifs en font un site de référence en Plaine de France.

Placing Man's Best Friend Back in the City explores the dynamics of human-canine society in Eighteenth-century Amsterdam through a lense of symbiosis. Drawing on notary depositions and lost dog messages in newspapers, it examines in what situations dogs and humans benefitted or harmed each other through their presence or their actions and how they mutually shaped each other's lives. The thesis discusses dog lives inside and outside the early modern house(hold)s of Amsterdam, the ways dogs contributed to households economically or otherwise through their labour, and finally how the relationship between the two species was heavily complicated by the ever-present fear of rabies. This thesis provides a new window into the barely-explored world of Dutch animal history.

Opracowanie poświęcone jest analizie przywileju nadanego żołnierzom armii rzymskiej przez cesarza Hadriana w odniesieniu do prawa dziedziczenia przez ich dzieci pochodzące ze związ­ków pozamałżeńskich. Począwszy od I w. n.e., żołnierze służący w legionach nie mogli zawrzeć ważnego małżeństwa. Wprowadzenie takiego uregulowania tłumaczy się najczęściej troską o utrzymanie disciplina militaris. W konsekwencji związki żołnierzy posiadających obywatel­stwo rzymskie z obywatelkami rzymskimi lub peregrynkami nie rodziły żadnych skutków praw­nych, nawet mimo potencjalnego istnienia conubium pomiędzy partnerami. Dzieci pochodzące z takich związków (liberi illegitimi) nie wchodziły pod władzę swoich ojców ani nie nabywały praw spadkowych w jego rodzinie. Report on the ceramic analysis of Roman pottery found in 2nd century contexts in the north-eastern quarter of Ulpia Noviomagus, the Roman town in Nijmegen-West. The analyses of the samian ware have been carried by Ester van der Linden (decorations) and Katja Zee (stamps), which contribute to the wider understanding of the chronology of the Roman occupation of the town.

L'histoire d'Ortaias, chef du Hodna* au VIe siècle, a longtemps été obscurcie par son identification avec le Vartaia dédicant de l'épitaphe de Masties*, identification qui posait bien inutilement des problèmes historiques considérables et amenait à des hypothèses et à des conclusions fort variées  En réalité, il faut distinguer les deux personnages.
Dès lors, on peut mieux cerner Ortaias, situer son royaume dans le Hodna, retracer son histoire et comprendre sa disparition.

Se presenta el resultado de la actuación arqueológica de salvamento realizada en la ladera norte del Cerro del Romero en Cascante en agosto del año 2020. En este emplazamiento se ubicó durante la Antigüedad y la Edad Media la ciudad de Cascante. El estudio de los restos cerámicos recuperados contribuye al conocimiento de las fases ocupación del Cerro del Romero y aporta nuevos datos al escaso y fragmentario conocimiento de la ciudad celtibérica y romana ubicada en el actual municipio de Cascante.

Situated at the NE corner of the Propontis, Nicomedia (modern İzmit) was a major urban centre throughout history. Since the ancient city is buried directly beneath the modern industrial Turkish one, little was known archaeologically until recently1 when a series of painted reliefs, part of a continuous marble frieze of which c.55 m in length have been uncovered, was discovered in the Çukurbağ district. They contain a remarkable combination of imperial, agonistic and mythological scenes.2 The depictions on the frieze, precious examples of tetrarchic art, shed light not only on the socio-political history of the Later Empire but also on the creation, self-identification and reception of a new tetrarchic capital.3 The marble frieze seems to have decorated an imperial complex dating to the late 3rd and early 4th c. when Nicomedia was Diocletian‘s administrative capital for the eastern Roman empire. This paper examines the architecture and planning of the Mostra d'Oltremare in Naples—a national display of colonial expansion that opened in May 1940—and the Esposizione Universale di Roma—an "Olympics of Civilization" that was proposed for 1942. These two major exhibitions will be studied in relation to Italy's violent and racially motivated Imperial politics. In the first case, it will closely examine the "Villaggi indigeni" (Indigenous village) of Italian East Africa, a scientific re-enactment of native constructions that became a space of violence and political confinement. In the second, it will study the "Villaggio operaio" (Workers' village), which, just like the larger exhibition grounds, was transformed into a site of military conflict during the war period.

A Figured Bedrock Sarcophagus in the Rural of Germanikopolis (Rough Cilicia/Isauria)
Due to the modern city of Ermenek being founded on the ancient city Germanikopolis, located within the borders of Rough Cilicia / Isauria in the ancient period, no architectural remains are encountered. However, there are many rock tombs belonging to the city’s necropolis on the rocks to the north of the town center. In addition, rock tombs are discovered in the city’s immediate vicinity. Four tombs were identified 250 m southwest of Ermenek Karalar Neighborhood, located approximately 4.5 km south of the beeline distance of the ancient city. These are probably the surviving elements of a small rural settlement. Three of these tombs are bedrock sarcophagi, and the fourth tomb is a chamasorium located 20 m northwest of this group. One of the bedrock sarcophagi is particularly striking because of the reliefs it carries. On the relief on the tomb, which we date to the Roman Imperial Period, the father of the family is depicted protecting his family with his spear against a bear. The subject of this study is the tomb with reliefs, which is stylistically similar to the reliefs of the Isauria Region.

The potential of large-scale, non-invasive prospection methods has been widely recognized in archaeology in recent years. Their outstanding possibilities for the exploration of urban centres have been realised early on and applied at selected sites. The ‘ArchPro Carnuntum’ project stands out for its extensive investigation of a Roman provincial capital by the combined application of a wide variety of survey methods (aerial archaeology, magnetometry, ground penetrating radar, extensive field survey) resulting in detailed information on the ancient infrastructure of the Roman metropolis. Within the project, it was not only possible to discover new settlement areas, but in some cases even to deduce their former purpose. As a result, the military administrative centre, newly built residential areas, and temporary military camps could be detected in the archaeological landscape of Carnuntum.
