The article describes the life and deeds of Jaime Diego, major of Javea during the XVI century who build the main fortresses and defensive watchtowers to protect the Villa agains pirate Berber attacks. He participated in one of such attacks and his son was made captive, perphaps coinciding with Miguel de Cervantes in Algiers

En el presente trabajo nos referimos a los momentos iniciales del desarrollo del Prado de San Jerónimo como paseo público durante el reinado de Felipe II y nos ocupamos de las primeras representaciones gráficas conocidas actualmente de este espacio público, surgidas en el reinado de Felipe III tras el regreso de la Corte de Valladolid.

In the last two decades the internationalisation of the Portuguese economy increased, particularly through outward FDI on the Portuguese-speaking countries. Different studies in economic literature conclude for the existence of a complementary relationship between foreign production and trade in traditional outward investing economies, contributing to the long term sustainable path of the country’s trade balance. In our paper we discuss if this hypothesis holds for a new outward investor like Portugal, with reference to the period 1996-2011. We use a panel data analysis within a framework of gravity models for exports and imports, with a sample composed by EU-15, U.S.A., Brazil, Angola, Spain, Japan and China.Our main conclusion is that the Portuguese outward FDI seems to be negatively related to exports, suggesting a substitution effect, and thus a negative trade balance effect, for the majority of countries in our sample. Este trabajo está centrado en la problemática generada a lo largo de la Edad Moderna en la ciudad de Jerez de la Frontera en relación con los espacios urbanos utilizados con fines deportivos. Este asunto ha permitido identificar algunos de los deportes practicados en este periodo, los espacios lúdicos y la dinámica social que los rodea.

Este libro colectivo investiga la relación dialéctica entre éxito y fracaso desde una perspectiva histórica de las experiencias individuales. Estas etiquetas, sin embargo, no definen dos posiciones antónimas con las que se pueda decidir, en todo tiempo, sobre cualquier situación sino que, más bien, delimitan un espectro de estrategias implícitas y explícitas de construcción, justificación y recreación (auto) biográfica. El término "fracaso" ha aparecido ocasionalmente en los títulos de algunas investigaciones sobre el Atlántico Ibérico en los siglos XVI al XIX, pero a menudo se considera que su significado es obvio y, por tanto, se teoriza de modo incompleto o poco sistemático. Parece, de hecho, que el fracaso se ha escapado a todas las recientes revisiones conceptuales y metodológicas de las categorías del análisis histórico. Esta ausencia de reflexión sobre el fracaso es, si cabe, más significativa cuando se aborda la vida individual de un personaje histórico, desde los más conocidos/as a los más desconocidos/as. Los distintos capítulos aquí reunidos ofrecen una serie de aproximaciones al fracaso individual durante los siglos XVI a XIX con el objetivo de cuestionar tanto las cambiantes percepciones sobre el éxito o los momentos de derrota que pueden caracterizar una vida como ciertas ideas comunes acerca de la estrategia individual.

Rastrear la progresión del linaje de los Carroz a lo largo del siglo XV a través del análisis de la documentación nobiliaria peninsular ha sido el principal cometido propuesto en esta aportación. A título particular, se hace especial hincapié en la semblanza del personaje que ocupara el cargo de virrey sardo durante las décadas de 1460-70, coincidente con un periodo agitado, social y políticamente, en la isla.
A tenor de las fuentes examinadas, este aristócrata reúne muchas de las condiciones y cualidades que caracterizan a esa figura administrativa de primer orden en el plano de actuación del reino de Cerdeña, con un poder y una responsabilidad incontestable tanto en la esfera pública como en el ámbito privado, cuya influencia y repercusión de
sus decisiones no pasaron desapercibidas a corto e incluso largo plazo.

A I 'inverse de son cousin Rainier à Menton, Jean refusait donc d'être délié par Urbain VI qui ne lui semblait pas légitime "de toute fidélité à I' égard de la reine schismatique, hérétique, rebelle", Jeanne Duras ou la Reine Jeanne Jean et Nice avaient désormais partie liée, autre fidélité réciproque. Lui reçut bientôt de Duras, sous obligation d'hommage et vasselage, Roure enlevé à Balp puis Touêt et Rigaud et deux parts de Levens qu'il Ainsi s'achevait la lignée des Grimaldi de Beuil.

This paper considers the meaning conveyed by the term “dignity” in human rights discourse. It considers various ambiguities associated with the term (e.g. Does it describe the content or the ground of certain rights?) as well as alternative accounts of the kind of meaning that “dignity” has (descriptive or evaluative, technical or ordinary language). The second part of the paper argues that the distinctive contribution that “dignity” makes to human rights discourse is associated, paradoxically, with the idea of rank: once associated with hierarchical differentiations of rank and status, “dignity” now conveys the idea that all human persons belong to the same rank and that, that rank is a very high one indeed, in many ways as high as what were formerly regarded as ranks of nobility.

The aristocratic titles, which the partitioning monarchies granted to some of their Polish noble subjects in the long nineteenth century, did not play a decisive role in the development and formation of the modern Polish noble elite. The foreign titles could only sanction the internal noble hierarchy, which was apparently much more determined by specific noble traditions and the cult of the pre-partition past. This argument is evidenced by the cases of families which did not need formal title grants to be recognized as truly aristocratic in that period.

Da decenni l'organizzazione della ricerca storica è strutturata sulla fondamentale suddivisione in quattro epoche storiche: Antichità, Medioevo, Età moderna ed Età contemporanea. Tali periodizzazioni, tuttavia, interrompono, di fatto, il corso del tempo, inserendo delle partizioni cronologiche e rendendo la storia molto schematica e convenzionale. In fondo, Marc Bloch (Apologia della storia, 1949) diceva: "noi ci diamo l'aria di distribuire secondo un rigoroso ritmo pendolare, arbitrariamente scelto, realtà alle quali questa regolarità è assolutamente estranea. E' una sfida al buon senso. Naturalmente ne usciamo molto male. Bisogna cercare di meglio". Esse rispondono, inoltre, a un'esigenza eminentemente didattica e, quindi, alla necessità di individuare avvenimenti fondanti memorizzabili.

The structure of the service population in the Sluсk and Kapyĺ principalities at the end of the 16th century outwardly remained traditional, its main groups were ziemianie (who served in the military) and bajars (responsible for the transportation of goods and correspondence). At the same time, from the end of the 16th century the process of transition of part of the bajars to ziemianie duties began. As a rule, it took place through the transfer of the entire population of bajar settlements
to ziemianie duties. Such a change in duty status was secured by documents issued by the Radziwiłł administration. Individual transitions to the ziemianie service were also recorded. As a result, during the 17th century the service community of the Sluck and Kapyĺ principalities became more homogeneous, most of the bajars began to perform ziemianie duties.

Islamic teachings highly regulate education. Even placed the responsibility of parents and families in determining the formation of the personality of the child. So the purpose of this study is to describe Islamic Education in the family. The method used is qualitative with a literature study approach when collecting data, then the contents are analyzed descriptively and the last is concluded. The results of the research show that Islamic education is the main pillar in the family, so in concept parents' lives should be colored with compassion based on the values of the Qur'an, hadith, and ijma' ulama. He also acts as a leader, guide, educator, and coach in the child's personality's moral, mental, social, physical, faith, and worship. So a good relationship between parents and children is needed, starting from when he is in the womb, he is prayed for goodness. This article presents new source materials about the work of the late baroque fresco painter Cosmas Damian Asam (1686-1729) and his work as for ephemeral architecture and painted decorations for festive entries and illuminations in the residential city of Munich during the reign of Elector Max Emanuel and his son ans successor Karl Albrecht, Electors of Bavaria. It also analyses the only known drawing by Asam for a temporary arch as a festive decoration around the tower next to the city hall on the occasion of the wedding of Karl Albrecht with the younger daughter of the late Emperor Joseph I. in 1722, preserved today at the Graphic arts department of the Kunstsammlungen und Museen Augsburg.
