In this case study, I examine how the residents of two displaced rural Kansas towns, and their descendants, exhibit a sense of identity common to small farm communities throughout the Great Plains, and how tenacious these ties are even after the physical reminder of their communal bonds no longer exists. By examining the struggles to survive faced by these two towns, Irving and Broughton, the resiliency of the people who called them home, and the continuing expression of community solidarity by the individuals associated with them, I propose that the individuals living within these communities created a transcendental identity similar to that of Benedict Anderson\u27s Imagined Communities. Current Globalization and democratic processes raised the question of women’s economic actuality more acutely in the order of the day. This article analyses the assassination practices of the Council of Ten of the Republic of Venice, with special reference to the plots organised by the Council to kill Sigismund, King of Hungary and future emperor. Th e article explores the context of the conspiracies, the language used by the Council to justify them, and the legal and normative issues raised by the Council's assassination policy. Th e article shows that the Council resorted to the assassination of foreign sovereigns when it perceived that the Republic's interests were seriously threatened. As an ideal type, this kind of organised, institutionalised and state-sponsored assassination practice, approved through established procedures by rotating Council members within the stable political structure of the Republic, can be distinguished from other typologies of political murder, notably those ordered in the context of court intrigues, where the «public» nature of the act was less visible.

Com este artigo damos a saber de um primeiro percurso em um programa coletivo de pesquisa sobre a institucionalização da História das Ideias Linguísticas no Brasil, em seus diferentes eixos de produção e de circulação. Trazemos aqui três gestos analíticos iniciais que vão ilustrar a complexidade e o vigor deste campo do conhecimento: o que diz respeito à construção de uma rede de pesquisadores em contínua formação; o que se refere à historicidade e ao processo de transmissão – em que perscrutamos sua inscrição inicial como projeto e seu percurso em encontro representativo no campo das ciências brasileiras, o ENANPOLL, e em que observamos o quadro atual de bolsas produtividade vigentes –; e, por fim, o que se refere à representatividade institucional e acadêmico-científica em contexto nacional – em que apresentamos um mapeamento inicial de disciplinas de História das Ideias Linguísticas na graduação e na pós-graduação de universidades estaduais e federais brasileiras.

From Hobbes and Descartes to Habermas and Derrida, primitive man has been present in European reflection on sociality, political legitimacy, human nature and language. The paper gives an overview of shifting notions of primitivity since the discovery of âThe New Worldâ and shows how native Americans played a role in the scientific revolution and the demise of the great chain of being, helped bring about a revision of natural law and inspired early forms of constructivism. The paper follows the original dichotomies that defined primitivity to see how they multiplied through the centuries and were transformed into the dominant conceptual pairs of the industrial revolution (organic/mechanic, authentic/alienated, use value/exchange value). This article approaches the pressing issue of mitigating pandemics through the perspective of the environmental humanities, and in particular environmental literary criticism, ecological ethics, and multispecies studies. The argument of the article is twofold: firstly, that we cannot begin to come to grips with the challenges and multifaceted impacts of emerging infections on human health and wellbeing without addressing the patterns of injustice, exploitation and environmental destruction that are evident in human relations not only with one another, but also with other animals; and secondly, that literary and other works of the creative imagination, such as James Bradley’s novel Clade (2017) and Mary Shelley’s The Last Man (1826), are well-placed to disclose the complex social-ecological causality of the emergence and spread of such diseases, and to raise questions about the ethical as well as the material implications of our entanglement with other lifeforms on an increasingly anthropogenic planet.

The Arjunawiwaha puppet play does not only convey discourse on Arjuna’s attempt to meditate on Mount Indrakila, but there is an ulterior motive behind it. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the hidden motives contained in the Arjunawiwaha puppet play by Ki Nartosabdo. This research includes literary research in the form of qualitative descriptive with collection techniques, namely content analysis. Michel Foucault's theory of knowledge power discourse is applied in this study to see the implicit motives in the Arjunawiwaha story. In his hermitage, Arjuna received two divine gifts, first, the Pandavas would excel in the great war of Bharatayuda and the Pandavas would become rulers in the country of Astina; second, Arjuna received the gift of Batara Guru in the form of an arrow named Kyai Pasupati. Les animaux fantastiques sont omniprésents dans nos sociétés contemporaines. Dragons, licornes, sphinx et phénix peuplent les oeuvres de fiction et notre imaginaire, peut-être même notre quotidien.  Ce sont, pour la plupart, des créatures mythiques apparues à la fin de la préhistoire. Leur rôle et leurs fonctions ont évolué au cours des millénaires. Il existe cependant des constantes dans leur représentations, comme leur rapport étroit au sacré et à la mort, leur appartenance au monde des marges. C'est sans doute ce qui explique que les animaux fantastiques continuent de nous fasciner : ils nous attirent et nous terrorisent ; ils interrogent notre rapport au monde, à la nature et à notre propre animalité. Cet essai retrace, à travers six mille ans d'histoire, l'apparition, l'évolution et l'actualité des plus emblématiques d'entre eux. Certains animaux fantastiques sont en effet omniprésents dans la culture populaire alors qu'ils sont apparus à la fin du Néolithique. Quelles fonctions remplissent-ils ? Pourquoi avons-nous aujourd'hui encore besoin d'eux ? D'où vient cette longévité dans la fascination qu'ils exercent ?

ABSTRACT: The article aims at presenting and discussing the conceptions and practices of reading explored in the training notebooks of the National Pact for Literacy at the Right Age (PNAIC). The analysis process of the content of the notebooks was conducted based on the following question: what conception of reading and what teaching practices are brought in the collection of notebooks of PNAIC? The discussion on the conceptions and practices of reading was carried out based on theoretical studies that see reading as a cognitive act set in the interaction between text-reader. The results of the analysis show that the texts of the training notebooks conceive the reading from elements of the interactive model of reading. Concerning the reading practices, the activities of extraction of meanings from the text for the development of textual understanding are prioritized. La obra de Jorge Edwards y el medio siglo chileno de María del Pilar Vila constituye un nuevo aporte crítico, insoslayable a la hora de profundizar en la obra del autor chileno. This bibliographic essay addresses the different approaches to animal sacrifi ce generally with a focus on animal sacrifi ce in ancient Greece specifi cally. As animal sacrifi ce was one of the unfamiliar rituals introduced to western anthropologists by foreign cultures, the ritual of animal sacrifi ce was addressed by anthropologists as early as the nineteenth century. Later, the topic was a trend in other different majors like archaeology, history, sociology and psychology as well.

Throughout historical ages, Gaza has been viewed amongst the most important cities of Palestine. The historic centre of Gaza is among the most important sites in the city as it bustles with business activities and is the place of major historic sites, and cultural and architectural legacy in the region. The city of Gaza used to have several public baths which were built to meet the hygiene and health needs of the local inhabitants. Furthermore, they played an important social role as gathering places for socio-cultural events, parties and meetings. It is most unfortunate that a large number of these baths have disappeared, apart from the Samarah bath in Al Zaitoun neighbourhood at the heart of the old city. This article is devoted to the Derivation and formation features of pharmacological terminology. Pharmacological terminology is one of the specific strata of vocabulary that occupies a special place in the language system, which is explained by its structural-semantic, word-formation and stylistic features. In recent decades, there has been an acceleration in the process of internationalization of pharmacological terminology. The source of internationalization in the terminological system of medicine is the morphemes of classical languages ​​such as Latin and Greek; previously borrowed general literary words and then terminologically rethought and borrowing finished terminological units. For the vast majority of European languages, this source is mainly English pharmacological terminology and contain approximately more than 10 000 terms.
