The notion of residential settlement associated with the acquisition of new citizenship has been recently challenged by a number of studies highlighting its instrumentality as a subsequent mobility factor. The long and diverse history of Switzerland as a country of immigration and the availability of rich data on naturalization and international migration that allow individuals to be followed over time make this country a valuable case for investigating the impact of naturalization on international (return or onward) migration. Using longitudinal data, we follow 88,900 immigrants who entered the country between 1998 and 2000 over a period of 84 months between January 2011 and December 2017, documenting changes in naturalization status and in migratory movements and their direction. Με την παρούσα ανακοίνωση στοχεύουμε ν’ αναδείξουμε με ποιους τρόπους η Σημειωτική (πχ. Barthes, Greimas, Λαγόπουλος & Boklund Λαγοπούλου) -την οποία επικαλούνται άμεσα ή έμμεσα οι θεωρητικοί της προσαρμογής (πχ. Andrew, Hutcheon, Klein & Parker, Leitch, McFarlane, Stam, Wagner) - μπορεί ν’ αποκαλύψει τις αφηγηματικές και μορφολογικές παραμέτρους που καθορίζουν τη σχέση της ταινίας με το πρωτογενές κείμενο, χαράσσοντας έτσι κατευθύνσεις για την κατάταξη των ταινιών ανά κατηγορία προσαρμογής και αποκαλύπτοντας συσχετισμούς, συμπλεύσεις ή αποκλίσεις νοήματος.
Η τριπλή διασκευή του ''Ιππόλυτου'' του Ευριπίδη μέσα στην ίδια περίοδο, με τις ταινίες ‘’Φαίδρα’’ (1961) του Ζυλ Ντασέν, ‘’Γυμνοί στο χιόνι’’ (1974) του Γιώργου Ζερβουλάκου και ‘’Το σπίτι στους βράχους’’ (1974) του ίδιου σκηνοθέτη στην ίδια χρονιά, αποτελούν δόκιμα παραδείγματα για την προσέγγιση των ζητημάτων προσαρμογής και την ανάδειξη των διαφορετικών κατηγοριών της.

In his study Fratture d’Italia John Foot argues that contemporary Italian history has been marked by a tendency towards divided memory.

Events have been interpreted in contrasting ways, and the facts themselves often contested. Moreover, with so little agreement over what happened, and why it happened, it has been extremely difficult to create any consensus around memory. This work delves into Italy’s past, looking at stories of divided memory over various periods in the twentieth century, and points the way toward a fresh understanding of Italian history.

Fra il 1499 e il 1500, in una delle fasi maggiormente delicate delle guerre d’Italia, Luigi XII prese Milano e costrinse Ludovico il Moro all’esilio. L’evento ebbe un’eco enorme ed entrò con forza nelle tipografie dell’epoca, determinando un’amplissima produzione di canzoni, cronache e testi normativi. Lo scopo di questo contributo è quello di considerare in ottica comparativa i documenti che vennero stampati a Milano e a Venezia, per mettere in luce i differenti effetti determinati dalla conquista sulla produzione a stampa.

Cento anni fa Fiume era il decimo porto più trafficato e moderno d’Europa. Dal 1868, lo Stato ungherese, che aveva a lungo collaborato proficuamente con gli imprenditori fiumani, attuò una politica di investimenti sviluppando le infrastrutture del porto di Fiume collegate al trasporto, realizzando
il collegamento ferroviario tra la città portuale, Budapest e l’entroterra economico del bacino dei Carpazi, costruendo le opere portuali necessarie per ricevere le grandi navi a vapore che in quel periodo dominavano il traffico internazionale, istituendo un’amministrazione marittima,
indipendente dall’Austria e sotto il controllo del ministero dei trasporti ungherese. Tutto questo era stato effettuato dall’Ungheria - ancora prima della guerra mondiale - come parte di un investimento economicamente redditizio.1 Erano disponibili piani tecnici sviluppati insieme alla volontà politica e finalizzati al perseguimento di uno sviluppo sistematico. Questi decenni di sviluppo economico e la sua pianificata continuazione sono stati interrotti dalla Prima Guerra Mondiale e dal successivo trattato di pace.

Rijeka je prije stotinu godina bila deseta najprometnija i jedna od najsuvremenijih luka u Europi. Nakon 1868. mađarska je država, koja je dugo vremena uspješno surađivala s riječkim poduzetnicima,
pokrenula politiku investiranja u višedesetljetne razvojne programe kao i davanja potpora izvoznicima, oblikovala je prometnu infrastrukturu, izgradila željezničku vezu s Budimpeštom i gospodarskim zaleđem u Karpatskom bazenu, te izgradila luku koja je mogla primati i pružati svu
potrebnu uslugu velikim parobrodima, ključnim za uključivanje u međunarodni promet. Stvorila je i pomorsku upravu te trgovačku mornaricu nezavisnu od Austrije i pod upravom ugarskoga Ministarstva
prometa. Sve to Mađarska je – još prije Prvoga svjetskog rata – provela u okviru programa isplative gospodarske potpore.1 U svrhu daljnjega sustavnog razvoja na raspolaganju su osim političke volje bili i pomno razrađeni tehnički planovi. Taj je višedesetljeni gospodarski razvoj, pa i njegov planirani daljnji napredak, međutim prekinuo Prvi svjetski rat te mirovni sporazumi koji su nakon njega sklopljeni.

After the war, Holocaust survivors in Italy owed much of their recovery to a network of humanitarian agencies and voluntary organizations that provided them with immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation programs aiming to retrain them for “normal life” after the horrors they had witnessed. This paper sheds light on an overlooked aspect of Jewish recovery in postwar Italy: the emphasis the rescue network put on vocational training and manual labor as means to promote healing, reintegration, and equality. Through a critical analysis of still unexplored primary sources, it traces the origin of the Organization for Rehabilitation through Training (ORT) in Italy and its first programs. The article reveals that the advocacy of vocationalism after the Holocaust helped Jewish survivors to assign new meanings to manual labor. In particular, the activities of the ORT in Italy involved both secular and orthodox local Jewry in an intense discussion around work ethic.

In questo Dizionario del post-sviluppo sono contenute da un lato riflessioni critiche rispetto alle soluzioni di mercato, al greenwashing delle multinazionali e agli approcci riformisti. Dall’altro lato, il volume raccoglie pratiche globali e cosmovisioni radicalmente alternative: in esse trova espressione la consapevolezza che un mondo ecologicamente saggio e socialmente giusto non solo sia possibile e necessario, ma per certi versi già esista. Per conoscerlo, non resta che immergersi nella lettura di questo libro.

Come rendere davvero italiani i territori di cultura tedesca, croata e slovena conquistati dopo il primo conflitto mondiale? Quali furono i piani di ‘conquista del suolo’ elaborati da ambienti nazionalisti e irredentisti prima e dal fascismo poi? La risposta fu nel tentativo di sottrarre almeno una parte delle proprietà terriere agli ‘allogeni’ delle nuove province per impiantarvi famiglie coloniche italianissime. Simili piani videro il coinvolgimento di enti operanti anche nel resto d’Italia e nelle colonie in attività di bonifica e colonizzazione.
L’esito finale sarebbe stato piuttosto deludente. Limiti di bilancio e considerazioni di politica estera frenarono i propositi più ambiziosi. In Alto Adige influì anche il giudizio tutt’altro che negativo che il fascismo aveva dei sudtirolesi, considerati conservatori, cattolicissimi e legati alla terra, quasi un esempio per i rurali delle altre regioni del Regno. La ricostruzione dei propositi fascisti di ‘conquista del suolo’ e del loro sostanziale fallimento consente di cogliere le oscillazioni e le incoerenze della politica del regime verso le minoranze linguistiche, gli elementi di continuità con il nazionalismo prebellico e con quello successivo al 1945, ma anche il modo tutt’altro che lineare attraverso cui il fascismo definì l’identità italiana.

Το παρόν άρθρο πραγματεύεται τον λογοτεχνικό τύπο του περιττού ανθρώπου στο παράδειγμα του έργου του Ivan Turgenev Το ημερολόγιο ενός περιττού ανθρώπου. Γραμμένο σε μία μεταβατική για τη Ρωσία εποχή, την περίοδο εξευρωπαϊσμού της χώρας, παρουσιάζει το υπαρξιακό δράμα ενός ανθρώπου που αδυνατεί να βρει νόημα στη ζωή και να καταστεί χρήσιμος τόσο στον εαυτό του όσο και στην κοινωνία. Η εξέταση του κοινωνικό-πολιτικού πλαισίου της ανάδυσης του, καθιστά εμφανή την σύνδεση του με τα μέλη της ιντελιγκέντσια και το ρόλο που διαδραμάτισαν στην προσπάθεια τους για αλλαγή παραδείγματος στη φεουδαρχική Ρωσία. Η πλειοψηφία της βιβλιογραφίας εξετάζει την πορεία εξέλιξης και τα χαρακτηριστικά του τύπου του περιττού ανθρώπου, ωστόσο το φιλοσοφικό έργο του Lev Shestov, με τίτλο Στους αντίποδες του ορθολογισμού, ρίχνει φως στη διαχείριση του θέματος από τον Turgenev. Η κριτική του γίνεται αφορμή να εστιάσουμε στο τέλος του μυθιστορήματος, που παρουσιάζεται για πρώτη φορά μεταφρασμένο στα ελληνικά.

Italian Medieval poet Dante Alighieri's Comedy, written in Italian at the beginning of the 14th century, using the Christian scriptures, the myths of the period, Islamic sources and his own imagination, consists of the Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory) and Paradiso (Heaven) parts, respectively. It is a satire with political and philosophical aspects in which the story of a fictional journey to the other world, which is thought to be taken after death, is told through poetry. The visualization of Dante, in which he included the Prophet Muhammad in the Inferno, with various illustration techniques that started shortly after he wrote this eschatological narrative, has continued for almost seven hundred years. In this study; the illustrations of the Prophet Muhammad, made for or inspired by the Inferno, have been researched through visual and written sources, including manuscripts, frescoes, drawings and prints from the beginning of the 14th century to the present. There are three parts in the research: in the first part under the title of Rumors; in the second part under the title of Malebolgia, the general structure of hell described in the Inferno and Canto 28, which is mentioned about the Prophet, are mentioned. In the third part, titled Illustrations, there are manuscripts, frescoes, drawings and printmaking samples made from the 14th century, based on the lines of this canton, where we can see the figures representing the Prophet. After the 1950s, illustrations using deformation, abstraction and distortion were added to the expressive and mimetic representations in these illustrations, which have been going on for centuries, and there is also a representation of the Prophet Muhammad, which is open to connotation, blending the narrative in Inferno, which was made as an oil painting, although it was limited to a single example. The visualization of this eschatological narrative first appears in the manuscripts prepared on parchment with different dialects of Italian in the second quarter of the 14th century in various regions of Italy, and continues with murals in public spaces. After the printing press began to be used in the middle of the 15th century, parchment was replaced by paper and reproductions began with the use of sangin, charcoal, graphite, silver pen, ink and watercolor, as well as various printmaking techniques such as woodcut, metal printing, and lithography. With the translation of Comedy into other languages in the late 18th century, illustrators and artists from different countries such as France, the United Kingdom and the United States also painted Dante's lines. Photography in the 19th century and digital reproduction techniques in the 20th century are involved and a larger audience is reached. After the mid-20th century, figurative paintings based on mimetic and narrative; Prophet representations using abstraction, deformation or distortion are added. They are not mimetic and narrative-based and show that what is meant to be represented can be conveyed through other means of illustration. The only extraordinary example made in the 21st century is the evocative oil painting of Arrivabene, which blends the Christian, Muslim and Jewish narratives, as the image and the name he gave to the painting.

The focus on the social aspects of banking identified in Carlo Lovioz, director at the London branch of the Italian Commercial Bank (Comit) between 1935 and 1940, a figure capable of showing the importance assumed by personal acquaintance networks in the financial landscape. A series of encounters have been selected that can offer an initial insight into Lovioz’s relational network, showing its composition and mechanisms. The support provided by the theory of social capital has enabled to highlight certain features of the social group of banking élite, including the spirit of cooperation, trust and esteem. Furthermore, the author considered essential to provide a preliminary historical framework in order to present a due contextualisation of the period prior to Lovioz’s management experience. The chosen chronological references were the foundation of Comit in 1894 and the banking law issued by the Fascist government in 1936. By retracing the steps of an institute that contributed to the economic development in Italy at the beginning of the Twentieth Century, the author was able to describe the causes that led to state intervention to rescue the bank between 1931 and 1933 and to its new organisational structure.

L'analisi dei documenti è parte fondamentale quando vogliamo interpretare gli avvenimenti, le strutture sociali, le organizzazioni, ma in questi ambiti i fatti neutri non esistono perché dobbiamo cercare di intenderli aldilà dell'apparenza, trovare un senso. A volte è un elemento/fatto trascurato o almeno poco approfondito nei documenti in esame a illuminare una vicenda. Forse questo è il caso in un libro di interviste a personalità di spicco della Democrazia Cristiana, Una storia mai scritta, realizzato da Maurizio Eufemi, un ex parlamentare di quel partito. La lettura delle interviste mostra un quadro complessivo convergente, in primis quello di un partito con una effettiva presenza nel sociale, una capacità rappresentativa attraverso quadri che riuscivano a interpretare interessi anche discordi. Ma è su quanto avvenne di drammatico nel ventennio successivo: il sequestro e l’omicidio di Aldo Moro, tangentopoli, l’implosione della DC, che nel libro in questione i diversi interventi appaiono scarni, le riflessioni rimangono in superficie.

Italy cannot be studied in isolation from the wider late Roman Imperial world. This chapter briefly sketches the inter-regional context of its history during the second quarter of the first millennium. It also considers its position in the wider debate on studies of Late Antiquity. The late Fergus Millar once claimed that ‘Italy has no history under the empire’. With that he meant that it had no narrative history, at least for the period he examined from Augustus to Constantine I. This volume will show that there are countless histories still to be told, from rustic to ruler, woven
against the tableau of the late Roman Italian peninsula and its islands.

La riflessione che propongo all’attenzione dei miei pochi, o forse tanti, lettori (ai quali peraltro sono grato per la pazienza con la quale, non da ora, seguono i percorsi per nulla rassicuranti di una critica dell’evoluzione in atto nei modelli educativi di tradizione europea) è, con tutta evidenza, fuori stagione. Vorrei riprendere, infatti, l’annosa questione degli esami di Stato coi quali si conclude il ciclo dell’istruzione secondaria: è una questione che si è trascinata attraverso il Novecento, e che si è già variamente riproposta in questo secolo. Fino agli anni Sessanta, quando la riforma della Scuola Media ha sostanzialmente cambiato lo scenario educativo italiano, l’opinione pubblica era stata sollecitata ad occuparsi degli esami soprattutto in occasione del loro svolgimento. Gli atteggiamenti prevalenti derivavano dalle esperienze compiute dai candidati, spesso non troppo diverse da quelle che in circostanze analoghe avevano compiuto i genitori, o comunque persone appartenenti al medesimo livello sociale.

La battaglia di Papo - Verzuolo. Il dipinto non illustra "quello scontro" ma un altro dei tanti scontri, sembra tra cristiani e turchi, avvenuti nel 1683 per difendere Vienna. Non si sa chi lo dipinse né quando, come non si sa in che anno venne acquistato. Era morto nel 1700, senza figli Carlo II re di Spagna, ultimo rampollo del ramo spagnolo di casa d'Austria, chiamando per etstamento a succedergli al trono Filippo duca d'Angiò. Contro questa designazione insorse l'ìimperatore Leopoldo I d'Asburgo, che pretendeva quella corona per suo figlio secondogenito Carlo. Con lui si strinsero in alleanza Inghilterra, Olanda e Portogallo. Il duca di Savoia, Vittorio Amedeo II si alleò con la vicina Francia pronta alla guerra. Alleanza che durò poco; qualche anno e i Savoia si allearono con quelli che prima erano stati i loro nemici (tutto secondo l'uso e la fede dei tempi). Questa guerra terminò per noi con il celebre assedio di Torino del 1706, dove, grazie all'intervento del principe Eugenio di Savoia, il duca Vittorio Amedeo II, vinse i francesi dopo una grande battaglia sotto le mura della città. Con questa vittoria l'Italia venne liberata dal dominio francese. Ma la guerra durò ancora alcuni anni sulle Alpi, nella Spagna, nelle Fiandre e in Germania, terminando nel 1723 col trattato di Utrecht. Nelle Alpi, nel 1712, comandava i francesi il maresciallo Bervik. Nell'agosto di quell'anno Bervik pensò di operare una diversione in Valle Varaita, forse più per motivi di vettovagliamento che per motivi militari.

Giacomo Matteotti (1885-1924) was an antifascist icon whose murder made him a symbol of the struggle against tyranny in Italy. Though he was active as a journalist, he was primarily known for being an influential, vocal, and active member of the Italian Parliament who openly opposed the violence and corruption of Mussolini's fascist dictatorship. Matteotti was devoted to improving the lives of the working class, and passionate about creating positive changes in society through social reforms. Shortly after he publicly denounced the fascist party for their blatant electoral fraud in 1924, Matteotti was kidnapped and murdered by Mussolini's supporters. This volume includes the first English translations of a handful of his early journalistic writings as well as two parliamentary speeches.

This paper describes the little known history of two special units of the Regia Aeronautica, the battalions "Loreto" (1942-1943) and "Duca d'Aosta" (1944), mainly based on the primary sources at the archives of the Ufficio Storico dell'Aeronautica Militare Italiana (Rome), focussing the research on their activities in Sicily, Sardinia (for "Loreto") and the Southern Italy ("Duca d'Aosta").

The creation of the Fascist New Man was one of the primary objectives of the Mussolini regime. This article aims to examine the theme by way of a specific case study of the physician and Fascist party official Giorgio Alberto Chiurco. A Fascist ‘of the first hour’ and faithful follower of Mussolini, Chiurco expressed his commitment to the project of creating a new Italian man with activity in various sectors. In medicine and sports, by promoting the training of new generations that would be healthy and athletic. In eugenics, by promoting the defense of the national genetic heritage from the ‘peril’ of contamination. In politics and culture, by promoting the so-called fascistization of schools and universities. All this activity shows, on the one hand, the important contribution made by single individuals to the totalitarian project of the regime and, on the other, the efficacy with which Fascism succeeded in orienting the activities of intellectuals and scientists on a national and international level.

Κατά τον 2ο αιώνα π.Χ. και μέχρι τις αρχές του 1ου αιώνα π.Χ., το νησί της Δήλου, που αποτελεί έδρα του μεγαλύτερου λιμανιού διέλευσης στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο, φιλοξενεί πολλούς Ιταλούς εμπόρους που ευημερούν για περίπου πενήντα χρόνια μέσα στον πολυπολιτισμικό πληθυσμό της. Με τα πολλά κτίρια, αγάλματα, ζωγραφικές και επιγραφές που έχουν ανακαλυφθεί από το 1873 από το Γαλλικό Σχολείο της Αθήνας, είναι δυνατό να ανασυσταθεί επιγραμματικά η ζωή αυτής της ποικίλης και επιδραστικής κοινότητας.

Il saggio presenta ed esamina un documento inedito: l'elenco dei libri della contessa Barbara Sanseverino (1550-1612), signora di Sala e Colorno, nel ducato di Parma. La nobildonna fu giustiziata nel maggio del 1612, dopo essere stata accusata di lesa maestà per aver partecipato alla cosiddetta "congiura dei nobili" organizzata contro il duca Ranuccio I Farnese. I libri annoverati nell'inventario post mortem sono una trentina e appartengono a diversi campi disciplinari: in ordine di elencazione vi compaiono sei titoli di manuali «per lavorare in maglia», un probabile 'libro di famiglia', quattro opere di letteratura, cinque di storia, una decina di titoli di spiritualità e di preghiera. L'esame della raccolta rivela una fruizione della stessa più a scopo d'intrattenimento e di meditazione che di studio, inoltre conferma, con la sezione dedicata ai lavori in maglia, l'interesse della contessa per l'abbigliamento alla moda, già emerso da prece...

Questo articolo tratta un episodio di brigantaggio preunitario relativo a Giuseppe Nicola di Cerreto in Terra di Lavoro, condannato con sentenza del 14 luglio 1816 dalla Commissione Militare di Campobasso e giustiziato il 16 luglio del 1816.
