Great War

“Scoccarono le sette. Uno squillo di tromba; e dai pressi
della scala vedo avanzarsi il triste corteo. Precede
il carnefice con i due aiutanti; poi il picchetto con nel
mezzo il Battisti, ed il sacerdote. Procede lentissimo.
Il Battisti non indossa più la divisa, ma un vestito grigio
scuro a quadrelli; ha in testa un berrettone scuro,
stivali grandissimi allacciati con spago; ha le mani
legate, incrociate; i gomiti pure legati. Guarda in giro,
quasi cercasse fra il pubblico un conoscente; guarda
alla sommità del muraglione, che fiancheggia la via, e
cerca invano conoscenze”. Perché, nonostante il suo
eroismo e una vita politicamente esemplare, Cesare
Battisti non è mai divenuto una figura-simbolo della
sinistra italiana? Questo saggio indaga le ragioni filosofico-
politiche di questa rimozione.

Les carnets d’artistes combattants ont fait l’objet d’éditions, d’expositions et ventes, ainsi que de numérisations et d’expositions virtuelles dans le cadre des missions pédagogiques du centenaire de la Grande Guerre. Cet article étudie les enjeux philologiques et patrimoniaux du carnet de guerre en explorant plusieurs contextes et domaines : archives et collections, expositions, éditions et presse illustrée. Les formats des carnets d’artistes combattants nous invitent à confronter genres et thèmes iconographiques, pratiques artistiques et littéraires, profils et trajectoires biographiques. Du fait que ces carnets contiennent notations graphiques, chromatiques, textes et photographies, les recherches et les montages documentaires sont confrontés à l’hétérogénéité et à l’hybridité des formats, tandis que leurs usages vont de l’expérimentation artistique au projet éditorial.

The subject of the article is the way of portraying the female participants of the January Uprising
in recent popular Polish historical novels. Next to the traditional image of the Polish female patriot,
the Polish mother most-often a noble woman who deals with auxiliary activities (provision, care for
the wounded), are presented women from other social strata, interested with emancipation issues and
activities involved in armed struggle. In addition, these novels become a pretext to restore the memory
of historical heroines as well as to reinterpret their fates, sometimes in an unobvious way

In the files of the psychiatric archives, autographed writings of pa- tients are kept on which doctors and linguists can compare them- selves, with the respective categories of judgment. This is the case of the former mental hospital of Pergine Valsugana and how psychia- trists, at the end of the Great War, underestimated war trauma and as- sessed linguistic behavior in relation to the model of the Italian school system rather than the current uses of popular Italian.

В данной статье рассматривается, каким образом философия В.С. Соловьева осмыслялась и трансформировалась Б.Л. Пастернаком в его художественном творчестве, в частности в образе Николая Николаевича Веденяпина в его известном романе «Доктор Живаго». Действительно, Соловьев считается предтечей того, что стало возрождением религиозной философии в России в начале XX века. В работе отмечается, что творчество обоих авторов было вдохновлено общим пониманием сути богообщения. В статье анализируется через исследование таких понятий как смерть, история, бессмертие, любовь и знание взгляды обоих авторов на христианскую доктрину. Выбор именно этих понятий был обусловлен тем, что именно они понимались поэтом и философом как ключевые точки, через которые раскрывается глубинная связь между искусством и религией. В произведениях Пастернака и Соловьева эти понятия осмысляются совершенно по-новому, не сводя религию исключительно к догме. В центре работы поставлена проблема о связи искусства и религиитема, которая, на наш взгляд, является фундаментальной для понимания творчества двух авторов. Анализ того, как оба автора смотрят на искусство и его задачи, действительно имеет решающее значение для понимания того, в какой мере Пастернак «унаследовал» философию Соловьева. В основе связи между религией и искусством в тексте также лежит анализ темы истории, смерти и бессмертия, вопросов, которые вращаются вокруг значения, которое искусство и религия принимают в творчестве двух авторов. Хотя в отношении некоторых исследуемых в работе понятий будут отмечены различия в понимании их Пастернаком и Соловьевым, мы полагаем возможным сделать вывод о том, что мысль Бориса Пастернака, несомненно, является продолжением мысли Соловьева и что творчество обоих авторов было вдохновлено новой концепцией христианства, раскрывающей в нем новые возможности, доселе скрытые. .

Związek Pracy Obywatelskiej Kobiet był jedną z największych organizacji kobiecych w Polsce międzywojennej. Swoją działalność prowadził poprzez Oddziały, znajdujące się na terenie całego kraju. Piotrkowski Oddział powstał po dwóch latach od założenia organizacji w Warszawie. Inicjatorkami jego powstania były kobiety, które wybitnie zasłużyły się dla polskiej państwowości. Celem Związku była odnowa moralna polskiego społeczeństwa poprzez pogłębienie idei państwowotwórczej Józefa Piłsudskiego. Kobiety podjęły się wychowania polskiego społeczeństwa na świadomych swoich praw i obowiązków obywateli. Swoją rolę pełniły poprzez szereg działań o wymiarze socjalnym oraz politycznym.

Tematem artykułu jest udział Wandy Grabowskiej w tworzeniu i działaniu Ligi Kobiet Pogotowia Wojennego w Piotrkowie. Przybliżony został jej życiorys, który wpłynął na pracę niepodległościową w latach I wojny światowej. Artykuł omawia zaangażowanie Grabowskiej w pomoc legionistom i ich rodzinom. Ukazuje także stosunki łączące piotrkowską Ligę Kobiet Pogotowia Wojennego z Legionami Polskimi. Na przykładzie biografii Wandy Grabowskiej przedstawiony został problem aktywności kobiet w działalności niepodległościowej.

A small crisis in Taba (Egypt), suddenly erupted in early 1906 owing to a border dispute in the Sinai Peninsula, presents a good case where intelligence played an important role. During the crisis and its aftermath, the option of forcing the Dardanelles Straits to coerce the Ottomans was proposed and discussed in Whitehall. However, such a scheme was rejected by the Committee of Imperial Defence following a joint study by the intelligence and fighting departments. The main reason for the proposal being rejected is intelligence that had been collected since the Great Eastern Crisis of 1875-78. Children's novels sometimes allude to events in the lives of their protagonists after the end of the main narrative, either through the assertions of authoritative narrators or the speculations of child characters themselves. Such predictions offer a hostage to fortune, however, for history may take a different direction from that envisaged by the narrative. In such cases, readers must find a way to navigate the contradictions between fictional and actual histories. That navigation is always potentially problematic, but perhaps particularly so in the case of Golden Age fictions such as Peter and Wendy (1911) and The Story of the Amulet ( 1906 ), the child protagonists of which were the right age to have reached adulthood with the advent of the Great War. This article describes the strategies developed by later readers and writers to cope with the disjunction between historical and fictional futures.

In May 1915, Italy attacked Austria-Hungary along the Isonzo River and in the Trentino, hoping to conquer territory which it believed to be rightfully Italian. An immobile, entrenched war of attrition quickly developed with neither side able to break through in 1915 or 1916. In the Adriatic both sides stuck to small scale operations. In October and November 1917 a joint Austro-German attack at Caporetto inflicted a massive defeat on Italy, but the Central Powers were unable to capitalise on their victory and Italy recovered well. As Austria-Hungary disintegrated at home, Italy emerged victorious after the final battle of Vittorio Veneto.

The importance of British naval control of the seas during the 1916 Rebellion in Dublin is under estimated. Naval intelligence, ability to rush reinforcements  to Ireland, prevention of German interference all played a part in suppressing the insurrection.  The British knew the Riusing was about to happen but took no measures to forestall it.  It would be an opportunity to lure out the German High seas fleet and the Battle of Jutland occurred only six weeks later.

Для приверженцев этого культа принципиальны представление о Дне Победы как главном празднике и победе СССР в 1945 году как главном событии мировой истории, антиисторизм, эмоциональное отождествление себя с жертвами войны и любовь к демонстрации предметов, наделенных сакральной силой. И конечно, война, в которой «мы» победили, — это Великая Отечественная война. Власть успешно капитализирует политическую составляющую культа, с легкостью находя «фашистов» для любого нового конфликта за пределами или внутри России.
